The video game use and its consequences

The first idea about video games was created on 1958 by a physic called William Higinbotham. However, on 1972, a firm named Magnavox launched the first video game, the Odyssey. Since this epoch, video games have been influencing people’s lives mainly children. Some people believe that video games prevents human knowledge develop, this because these machines work together with our brain, making us think only about what we are playing. Nevertheless, a large number of people believe in the opposite aspect which address about how video games can change children’s mind, making them violent.

According the article published on FOX NEWS, available here, “the amount of time children spend playing video games is linked to small differences in their mental and social health”. Thus, this don't make the children be unsocial or be with lack of attention.

The video games can help people to develop specifics skills, making our mind working better. In conclusion, the use of video games have positive and negative effects on people life, this depend only to our decision. Correct choices of games can contribute with our personal development.

Getting inspiration through nature

It is so interesting to note how nature can change our mind. Take for example the following thought "how a butterfly can be useful to create an airplane". There are many kinds of butterflies scattered in all world. The characteristic that most calls human’s attention is the diversity of colors in each butterfly. However, one interesting characteristic have called scientist’s attention. The butterflies have wings which are waterproof.

Beyond the wings be necessary used to fly, they are used to protect butterflies’ body, repelling water. This fact is important to be noted because the efficiency of flying depends of the moisture. As a result, engineers are studying the butterflies to take them as model to build future airplanes. Daniel Stone wrote in his article "Waterproof Wings" one interesting quotation of MIT’s Kripa Varanasi, which explains “If we can reduce the contact time with water, a surface can stay dry longer”.

If engineers find the answer “How can we make better airplanes?” only getting inspiration looking at the nature, certainly the idea found into nature will solve many problems current existent on airports. As consequence, less flights would delayed since it would be easier to remove the ice impregnated in the airplane.

Man's best friend and the IEDs

The dogs are considered the best friends of men. Also, they are considered the best discoverers of IEDs. Because they are domesticated animals, it is easy to train them to do good work in many different areas. In specific, the area of security there are many trained dogs acting to help maintain the countries safe.

In the National Geographic article "Billions Have Been Spent on Technology to Find IEDs, but Dogs Still Do It Better", written by Ashleigh N. DeLuca, the author addresses about canine heroism. The dogs have a excellent sense of smell, which turns easy finding improvised explosive devices (IEDs). It is incredible to see the process of action used by dogs to find explosives. The natural skills of detection through smelling together with the good relationship between humans  are the main factors to explain the why dogs are so helpful in these situations.

Personally, I found interesting the sentence that one man said during the text in the article "What became very clear to me is that if you don't see the teams in action, it's really hard to glean what the dog teams are capable of by just reading about them.". It is really true, because the dogs can surprise us with its own abilities used to many different causes.

Thus, we can see that dogs show us the really main of friendship, because they are willing to sacrifice their own life to save human's life. "These working dogs have saved uncountable soldiers life", according the article in National Geographic, and they are helping to build a better world, without improvised explosive devices.

Overcoming the Stereotypes in Childhood

According with Collins COBUILD Advanced Dictionary of American English, a stereotype is "a fixed general image or set of characteristics that a lot of people believe represent a particular type of person or thing". Since children, we learn about uncountable differences existent between cultures. The importance present into each culture is grounded in beliefs and in people’s minds. The image is created forming fixed characteristics inside people’s mind, what turns the thought immutable to a group of people or society giving rise to stereotypes.

A humorous poke at the stereotypes around world, available here.

Stereotypes sometimes can be considered a type of prejudice, because becomes a preconceived idea about something or someone. Thus, since we are children our parents need to teach each us how dealing with stereotypes. According one article available here at www.pbs.org, there are seven ways to fight stereotypes. The first one is be able to talk with child about multiple cultures. When we obtain child attention teaching about the differences present in the world, we are contributing with the break of prejudice which could arise in the future.

Another important aspect showed in the article addressing how to fight stereotypes is named by the author as “teach your child that images of beauty are often illusions”. This is an important point to observe in the current world because some problems are becoming uncontrolled due the media that shows how one person can look like a star. Some people get mental illness, as eating disorder, trying be as an artist unawares that the real image of his/her prefer star isn’t real.

In the current world, the appearance is easy to manipulate. The technology present in media is a powerful instrument to do this process. Stereotypes can be dangerous and can be used as a bad way against own person if not taught since child by parents that everybody is different and that the world need these contrasting differences in each person.
