Building's innovations

Actually the materials and procedures used, thanks to the new technology developed, are revolutionary the new methods of building. Technology whit focus in environmental field and better methods of reducing are each day most famous inside civil engineering.

One of the most commented method related with energy saving is about the use of energy for maintaining the temperature inside of buildings. In article 'Cooling From the Sun?', Marianne Lavelle, with Alexandra Arkin and Lauren Biron explains how we can explore the sun's energy. This is interesting because we can use a natural energy when is necessary. Because that, and also this is a green-energy and compensable in long term time, several companies was introducing air conditioners packaged with solar photovoltaic panels.

Each form of air system can offer different kinds of thermal comfort. Thermal controls spend many energy and, because this, the structure and strategic plan are important to obtain the better air circulation with cheap price. For example, at the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Erick Kozubal and his colleagues are working on a new air-conditioning system that addresses about the importance of humidity related to thermal sensation (the complete article by National  Geographic you can see clicking here). Inside the buildings new technology of air-conditioning system should be implanted for save resources, which are generally expensive in this actually world.


Further, the design form of air circulation in buildings appearances can save energy as the 
aesthetic modifications during the process of construction. Look this simple example about how we can enjoy natural resources for our own good.

This is a simple example in which João Filgueiras Lima (Lelé) combined curves to improve the air circulation on the Sarah Lago Hospital. Personally, this way is more viable and economic because in long term time the benefices will come and the investment will be rewarded.

The resources are, unfortunately, finite and we ought to preserve. Each field of study is important and has to be analyzed together for improve new technologies and preserve the environment. A lot of information is presented every day inside the are of engineering, and we have to pay attention in the building's innovations to do the better for all.

  1. This is interesting. I have read a lot about solar panels and for single-family homes the cost of the panels would take more than twenty years to pay for itself in energy savings. For most people (at least in America) it is unlikely that they would live in a house long enough for such an investment to be worthwhile.

  2. This is the main issue, assess whether it is financially viable. However, we know that we must change our way of living. Someday it will have to happen because the natural resources present on our earth planet are limited. All environmentally sustainable methods should be prioritized and encouraged by the government in all countries. So, our children will have an even habitable place to live.
